Where to stay in kihei, maui: review of the maui coast hotel
Chill vibes, beach access, and the perfect pool setup for a relaxed Hawaiian getaway
If you’re looking for the perfect place to stay in Kihei, Maui — somewhere close to the beach, beautifully maintained, and full of thoughtful details — let me introduce you to my new favorite spot: the Maui Coast Hotel.
I stayed here recently during my time in South Maui, and from the moment I stepped into the airy, open-air lobby, I felt like I had discovered a hidden gem. Whether you’re in Maui for surf, sand, or simply sunshine, this hotel delivers comfort, convenience, and a whole lot of aloha spirit.
Here’s everything I loved about the Maui Coast Hotel — and why it might be the perfect base for your next Hawaiian adventure.
Pool Paradise: Quiet, Clean, and Oh-So-Relaxing
One of my absolute highlights? The pool area.
Unlike some busy resorts where you’re fighting for space, the Maui Coast Hotel pool setup is laid-back, uncrowded, and thoughtfully designed.
- Two beautiful pools to choose from — including one saltwater pool that felt amazing on my skin
- Three hot tubs (yes, three!) including a saltwater hot tub for ultimate relaxation
- Plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas, with no need to rush down at 6 a.m. to claim a spot
- Generous, well-designed lounger covers so you don’t have to wrestle with two towels to stay dry and comfy
- Fresh pool towels provided, plus extra towels for use at the beach
It felt like a little oasis of calm, with just the right amount of buzz — perfect for sunbathing, reading, or grabbing a bite from the poolside café.
Poolside Café + On-Site Perks
The poolside café bar was another lovely surprise. It serves a light breakfast and lunch menu, perfect if you don’t want to wander far for your morning coffee or midday bite. The food was fresh, and it’s a great spot to chill with a smoothie or cocktail in hand. They also do happy hour every day!
You’ll also find a small shop on-site that’s super handy — offering:
- Fresh coffee and breakfast items
- A selection of snacks, drinks, and souvenirs
- Essentials you may have forgotten to pack
It’s all designed to make your stay easy and enjoyable, without needing to leave the property for every little thing.
Rooms That Feel Like Home (but Better)
The rooms at Maui Coast Hotel are:
- Clean and spacious
- Thoughtfully laid out
- Equipped with everything you need — including mini-fridges, microwaves, comfortable beds, and great water pressure in the showers
I was especially impressed with the housekeeping service — everything was spotless throughout my stay, and the staff were warm, welcoming, and always willing to help with anything I needed.
Amenities That Make a Difference
Beyond the basics, the hotel goes above and beyond with little extras that make a big impact:
- On-site shuttle service that will take you anywhere within a few miles — perfect for popping to dinner or checking out nearby shops and beaches
- Well-maintained property throughout, from gardens to hallways
- Friendly and helpful staff who truly embody the aloha spirit — from check-in to poolside chats
- The open-air foyer/lobby is such a beautiful welcome — breezy, peaceful, and quintessentially Hawaiian
Location, Location, Location
Situated right in Kihei, the Maui Coast Hotel is just a short stroll from the beach — literally across the road. You’re steps from:
- Multiple sandy beaches perfect for swimming or sunset watching
- Local restaurants, bars, and shops
- Coastal walking paths
It’s an amazing spot to stay if you’re doing activities in South Maui or just want easy access to the shoreline without the crowd and chaos of larger resorts.
Final Thoughts
I can’t recommend the Maui Coast Hotel enough. It offers a perfect balance of:
- Resort-style amenities
- Unpretentious charm
- A truly welcoming, peaceful atmosphere
Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, a solo adventure, or a laid-back Hawaiian escape, this hotel checks all the boxes — with plenty of sunshine and banana bread moments along the way.
